Impression Rhapsody
October 28, 2008
And people say I’M good at impressions? This Rick Miller fellow does 25 of the most annoying voices in music, and nails most of them. He starts to lose it with his attempts at Ozzy, Jagger, and Fred Schneider…the B-52s guy…but I can’t complain about the rest.

We’ve been examining different styles in Expository Writing, and today we had a class-long discussion on the evolution of Batman. It reminded me of this hilarious video I found a little while ago. Just watch.

I feel like John Lennon.
October 16, 2008A few years ago, I started a band with a friend from Liverpool. With these things, the more talented musicians you have on stage all at once, the better. So, I ended up recruiting a promising kid – let’s call him Paul.
My friend Ringo wanted in, and it was cool. Paul got his friend George in on the act, and a bunch of others signed up. Let’s just call them Ringoes.
We had a pretty decent band going for a year or so. We put on a show every day, with a few new songs every day. Lots of variety, too.
But the thing with these bands is, every member has to commit. You’re either all in or not in at all. I was willing to commit for a few years, and then move on, because I don’t want to play the same songs for the rest of my life.
Paul didn’t like that at all. He hates…HATES the fact that I left. He begged for me to stay, practically tried to force me to. That only made me want to leave more, because working with him can be such a drag.
But the thing is, I have a lot of faith in Paul. The man’s a genius with many talents. Surely, he could continue the show even without my help. Besides, he had lots of help – his best buddy George, and plenty of Ringoes. That’s a great band right there.
But Paul apparently knew from the start that it’s just not the Beatles without me. Unfortunately, there’s no going back for me, so the best he can do is Wings. But he can’t even do THAT.
Not right now. He’s figuring out which college to go to, all while working and keeping his grades up. Also, he, George, and all the Ringoes are doing a couple *more* bands. *More* commitments.
So, you can go online, and see what the Beatles are up to, but what you’ll get is Paul McCartney at his worst. You get about a song a week, and they’re certainly not the songs of the week. It’s stuff we’ve heard many times before, and a bunch of cheesy schmaltz. Stuff you can live without.
And it hurts because I know, as the guy who was his partner for so long, that he can do better. I know that soon enough, when this hectic period of his life is over, he can make great music again. Same with his friend George. Same with all the Ringoes. Believe me, because I, more than anyone, know what these people can do.
